Creates Strategic Alliance to Actively Manage and Protect a Brand’s Amazon Channel including the Identification and Elimination of Online Counterfeit Products and Distributors
ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 5, 2019 — Document Security Systems, Inc. (NYSE American: DSS), (“DSS”), a leader in anti-counterfeit, authentication, and diversion protection technologies, announced today that it has signed an agreement (the “Agreement”) with Market Defense, LLC, (“Market Defense”) an online brand protection specialist that fully-manages a brand’s Amazon marketplace, including the identification and elimination of product diversion, counterfeit products, and unauthorized distributors.
The Amazon Marketplace, which is made up of over 2.5 million independent merchants with goods for sale, accounted for approximately $175.0 billion in revenue, representing over 68% of Amazon’s 2018 sales, according to e-commerce intelligence firm Marketplace Pulse. For the first time, in a recent regulatory filing, Amazon warned investors that one of the biggest problems facing its on-line marketplace was counterfeit products. What has become evident to Amazon merchants is that, in addition to legitimate competition, they must also constantly monitor and combat counterfeiters that undercut their prices or try to hijack their product listings. This battle is an arduous and labor-intensive journey for brand owners that quite often ends up creating significant expenses with little, if anything, being accomplished.
Market Defense provides world-class solutions to protect a brand owner’s Amazon platform by enforcing and monitoring pricing/reseller policies, removing unauthorized sellers, fighting gray market diverters, protecting trademarks and IP, improving online reputation, analyzing competition, boosting visibility locally and globally, increasing sales with marketing strategies, and handling customer service, among other tactical initiatives.
“Our partnership with Market Defense creates an imposing combination and fits perfectly with our overall strategy of protecting brand owners and consumers from the inevitable damage cause by counterfeit and diverted products,” stated Jeff Ronaldi, CEO of DSS. “Their expertise in managing a brand owners entire online Amazon channel deeply compliments our AuthentiGuard technology in securing supply chains and providing market data for these brand owners allowing them greater protection and control of their revenue and reputation,” added Ronaldi.
