Most marketplace events are built to sell you on a platform. This year’s Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit felt different. The message was less about why to sell on Walmart and more about how far a brand can grow once Walmart stops being a single channel and starts being a connected ecosystem. That shift is why we keep paying close attention.
We attended this year’s summit under the slogan Walmart chose for the moment: “Grow beyond.” It captured the throughline of the day perfectly. Walmart is asking sellers to think past Marketplace as a standalone storefront and to see the full picture, from Marketplace to fulfillment to advertising to the physical shelf. A few themes stuck with us.
Marketplace momentum is accelerating
Walmart came into the summit with numbers worth celebrating. Marketplace sales grew 52% in Q2 FY27, while Walmart U.S. eCommerce grew 24%. That gap says something meaningful. Walmart is positioning Marketplace, not just Walmart.com, as a central engine of its eCommerce growth. For the brands we partner with, this is a clear signal that Walmart is investing exactly where sellers can win.
From Marketplace to true omnichannel
The strongest theme of the day was the connection between 3P Marketplace, Walmart 1P, and physical stores. Sessions explored how online performance can open doors to the physical shelf. Walmart shared that its pilot for in-store pickup and two-hour delivery will reach 600 stores in the next two quarters, with a planned rollout across all 4,000 stores. Walmart is becoming one connected ecosystem rather than three separate channels, and that is a genuinely exciting place for brands to grow.
Four levers for growth
Walmart pointed to four priorities for Marketplace investment: a broader and more competitive assortment, compelling pricing, stronger product discovery, and faster delivery. The takeaway for sellers is that being listed is no longer enough. The brands that thrive will be the ones competing thoughtfully across all four, and that connected approach is exactly the kind of work we love building with our partners.
Fulfillment takes center stage
Fulfillment was a highlight, and for good reason. Nearly half of Walmart’s Marketplace business flowed through fulfillment services in Q2. Walmart is also positioning that infrastructure as a multichannel capability rather than a Walmart-only one. Through Walmart Multichannel Solutions, sellers can support orders from channels beyond Walmart, which makes it a compelling complement to the fulfillment setups brands already run.
From algorithm to aisle
For established consumer brands, the most strategically important idea was how Walmart is linking digital Marketplace performance to 1P and in-store opportunities. The summit’s discussion on moving from algorithm to aisle focused on how performance across Marketplace, Walmart Direct, and the physical shelf can compound over time. It reframes Marketplace as both a sales channel and a proving ground for broader Walmart distribution.
Say hello to Sparky
Walmart also introduced Sparky, its AI shopping assistant. Sparky is a text and chat experience built directly into Walmart’s website and app, giving shoppers a software-first way to discover and buy. It is a thoughtful look at where discovery is heading, and one more reason for brands to keep their content and listings sharp.
What we took away
A common thread ran through the day. The brands positioned to grow fastest on Walmart are the ones treating it as one connected system rather than a set of isolated channels. Marketplace leads to fulfillment, fulfillment supports advertising and discovery, and strong digital performance opens the door to 1P and the physical shelf.
Marketplace → Fulfillment → Advertising and Discovery → 1P → Store
That is the work we do every day for the brands we partner with. Showing up wherever the shopper is, with a brand experience that stays consistent across Amazon, TikTok Shop, Walmart, and everywhere else they shop.
